What Is Tesamorelin?
Tesamorelin is a stabilised synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), consisting of the full 44-amino acid sequence of human GHRH with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group attached to enhance stability. It is one of the most clinically studied GHRH analogues, with a particular focus on its effects on visceral adipose tissue (VAT) โ the metabolically active fat stored around internal organs.
Mechanism of Action
Like natural GHRH, Tesamorelin binds to GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating the pulsatile release of growth hormone. The resulting increase in GH and downstream IGF-1 promotes lipolysis โ the breakdown of stored fat โ particularly in visceral adipose depots. Crucially, Tesamorelin stimulates GH release in a physiological, pulsatile manner, preserving the natural feedback mechanisms of the GH axis.
What Research Shows
Tesamorelin has one of the most robust clinical research profiles of any GHRH analogue. Studies have demonstrated significant reductions in visceral adipose tissue, improvements in lipid profiles (particularly triglycerides), and improvements in body composition. Research has also explored its effects on cognitive function, with some studies suggesting improvements in memory and executive function in older adults.
